Sizzling Summer Series Another Great Result!

I knew it was going to be a great day with clear skies to welcome me back for my first race in 2011.

As we road to the course for our warm up we were confronted with a block head wind most of the way to test our mental skills and to top it off a puncture.

A lightning speed tyre change and we were soon back on track when Ange’s gears locked up and I pushed her into the Specialized tent for some fine tuning from the professionals.

This reminded me that a few speed bumps along the way is all part of racing. Being able to adjust to any circumstances is what makes our team special and that is exactly what we did.

This week our aim was to keep the pace high and to retain the yellow jersey – mission accomplished.

The signal was made and we were off. I lead out for the first lap to set the tone and it wasn’t long before Liz (MB cycles) attacked up the rise and we had to chase.

We had caught her by the back corner and were already up to 50km/hr with a tail wind before we rounded the bend into a block head wind, which reduced our speed to 30km/hr.

These conditions were perfect for the stronger cyclists and we knew it was going to break up the field.

There were a number of attacks made for the next 15min but all proved unsuccessful with Sweet As reeling them back in.

Then the big one came from Liz with Ange close on her wheel followed by another rider.

In the last quarter of the race Ella bridged across to support Ange working brilliantly together and Ella went on to take out the win for Sweet As with Ange finishing 3rd.

With solid efforts from Simone, I covered the attacks to protect her for the bunch sprint and lead her out for the win in the chase group finishing in 4th place.

All in all it was another great result for Sweet As and we are looking forward to the final round next weekend.
