Sunday saw the Geelong Tour go to the third and final stage, and what a day it turned out to be!
With time bonuses on offer every two laps, this was going to be a race of sprints. Our 6 girls set off with a number of potential race plans in mind..which one would play out over the course of the event wouldn't be known until the dust settled at the finish.
The field rolled out and the second lap was the first of the 10 sprints. Zoe and Loren were led around by Maddison for the first two sprints before she stepped off..job done.. with a painfull back injury limiting her role. Nice work Maddi.
Ze and Lauren picked up some of the early points, but the pace was taking it's toll not only on our team but all of the riders looking for bonuses..you just can't do them all!
With the race settling into some sort of rythym of sprints, attacks and catches it looked like a large proportion of the field would be together for the final laps. Then in a flash a pair of riders were off the front...not good from our perspective. No other teams were capable or willing to bring it back..that was till Trish drove to the front and let it hang out..she smashed herself like a final sprint for the best part of a lap to bring within reach with 400 meters to go! From there our guys showed the NRS how good they are... Loren WINS, Zoe 4th and Nicole 7th.. Most team are happy to have one rider in the top 10 in this level of competition..
What a weekend. Loren takes 2 Stage wins, Zoe is confirmed as Queen of the Mountains and Bundaberg Sugar Team climbs back up the NRS ladder.
The weekend confirmed what a great team of Maddison, Loren, Amy, Nicole, Trish and Zoe we have. With our super swannie Wayne Northey once again driving 10 hours to and from the event and still being on top form.
The whole group were a great TEAM.
Our team partners; Bundaberg Sugar, Triple Play, Specialized and SRAM were the toast of the event.
The next NRS rendezvous for the is Honda Tour run in conjunctn with the Herald Sun Tour. If we can achieve anywhere near the success we've enjoyed over the last week it should be great race.

Two in a Row!
